A Ripclub pack is a fixed-price product that opens onto one real graded slab we already hold. This page describes exactly how the slab is chosen. The description is the code: the draw runs as a single database function, and what is written here is what it does.

Every pack has a card in it

There are no empty packs and no "consolation" items. Each pack lists a value range (the floor every pull clears and the ceiling) and shows the actual slabs currently stocked in it under What's inside. Each of those slabs is a specific physical card, entered by grader and certificate number, sitting in the Card Index vault. When one is pulled it leaves the list.

How a draw works

1. Each pack is divided into value brackets (for example $18–$40, $40–$100, $100+). Each bracket has a published percentage. The percentages sum to 100.
2. When you buy a pack, the draw first picks a bracket using those percentages. Only brackets that currently hold at least one available slab take part; if a bracket is sold out, the remaining brackets' percentages are scaled up proportionally to sum to 100 again.
3. Within the chosen bracket, one slab is picked uniformly at random.
4. The slab is marked as pulled and assigned to your pull inside the same database transaction, with a row lock, so two buyers can never be drawn the same slab.

The pack page shows the live odds: the published percentages after the renormalisation in step 2 for the current stock. When every bracket is stocked they equal the published odds. When one is sold out, the page says so and shows both figures. Whatever is on the page at the moment you buy is what the draw uses.

The First Rip guarantee

Your first pack on Ripclub — across all packs, on your account — is guaranteed to open onto a slab worth at least the pack's list price. Concretely: for a first pull, slabs valued below the pack's list price are excluded before step 2, and the bracket odds are then applied over what remains. It is a floor, not a separate odds table. Pro members' discounts do not lower the floor; the list price is used.

We only sell the guarantee when we can honour it. If a pack has no slab at or above its price in stock, the First Rip badge is not shown for it and a first-time buyer cannot purchase that pack until it is restocked. In the rare case that the last qualifying slab is drawn by someone else in the instant between your payment and your draw, the draw proceeds normally, the pull is marked as not having received the guarantee, and the difference between the pack price and your slab's value is credited to your balance automatically.

Values

A slab's value is the Card Index market value for that card in that grade at the time the slab was last refreshed, or a value set by our team where market data is missing. The value shown on your reveal is frozen at the moment of the pull and is what the 85% buyback offer is based on. Values are estimates of market price, not guarantees of resale.

What you can always do

• Keep the slab in your Card Index portfolio, for free, indefinitely.
• Have it shipped to you for a flat fee.
• List it on the Card Index marketplace at your own price, with us posting it to the buyer.
• Sell it back to us instantly for 85% of its value at pull, credited to your balance.

Randomness

The draw uses PostgreSQL's random() inside the database function. Nobody at Card Index can see or influence the outcome of a specific pull before it happens; the admin tools set prices, stock and bracket odds only, and every pull records which bracket it came from so the published odds can be audited against results.
